Independent Canadian information resource. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice.

How we make money

Full disclosure of AsbestosExposure.ca's revenue model, and what it does and does not affect.

The short version

AsbestosExposure.ca is funded by advertising from independent Canadian law firms that handle asbestos-disease claims, and by advertising from asbestos-testing and abatement services. Advertising does not change what a claimant pays and does not affect what a lawyer can recover.

What advertisers pay for

Advertisers pay us to place their information in front of readers. There are two typical structures:

  • Flat-rate sponsorship. A firm sponsors a section of the site (for example, a provincial page) for a fixed monthly amount.
  • Per-qualified-enquiry advertising. A firm pays a fixed amount when a reader completes our questionnaire, consents to being contacted, and matches the firm's intake criteria.

The rate a firm pays does not depend on the outcome of the reader's claim, and does not depend on how much the reader recovers. This is advertising, not a referral fee or a share of legal fees. It is priced per lead or per month, not as a percentage of any settlement.

What advertising does not affect

  • What you pay. Nothing in our arrangement with a lawyer changes what the lawyer charges you. Contingency-fee terms, if the lawyer works that way, are set between you and the lawyer.
  • What your lawyer can recover for you. Advertisers pay us out of their own marketing budget, not out of your recovery.
  • What our editorial content says. Our health, disease, and provincial-compensation pages describe the underlying facts based on sources cited in each article. Advertisers do not review or approve our content.

Who we accept advertising from

We accept advertising only from:

  • Independent Canadian law firms that have a genuine asbestos-disease or occupational-disease practice
  • Licensed and reputable asbestos-testing and abatement contractors serving Canadian markets
  • Home inspection and air-quality testing services

We do not accept, and will not accept, advertising for:

  • Supplements, treatments, or "natural" cancer therapies
  • Lead brokers or pass-through referral networks that we cannot vet
  • Firms without a Canadian law society licence

Referral-fee versus advertising

In some provinces, law society rules restrict referral fees between lawyers and non-lawyers. Our arrangement with law firms is structured as advertising services, priced per lead or per month. We do not take a percentage of a client's recovery, and no advertiser is entitled to any share of a fee earned on a case.

Each advertiser is solely responsible for its own professional obligations and its own advertising compliance. If you have concerns about a specific firm, contact the law society in that firm's province.

Corrections

If any of the above changes, for example, if a specific arrangement takes a different form, we will update this page and note the change in our editorial policy. Questions or concerns: info@asbestosexposure.ca.
